Dealing with Disappointment

09 Nov

Depending upon the results of the United States election yesterday and which candidate you voted for, you may find yourself facing disappointment this morning. Or maybe you are in the middle of a stressful situation with a family member or at your work place. You may have gotten test results back from the doctor that you weren’t expecting. Each of us face disappointment in our lives. Sometimes daily.

I was praying about some recent disappointment and came up with a new motto. Instead of thinking about ________ (fill in whatever situation you are going through), I choose to focus on Jesus. I like these verses from Hebrews 12:1-3 (NIV).

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”

So instead of wallowing in the muck and mire of disappointment, I choose to fix my eyes on Jesus.
