Baked Apple Donuts

02 Dec

IMG_2384Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without Baked Apple Donuts. My youngest son especially would mutiny if I quit making them. I hope you enjoy!

1-1/2 cups flour
1-3/4 tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. salt
½ tsp. nutmeg
½ cup sugar
1/3 cup shortening
1 beaten egg
¼ cup milk
½ cup grated, peeled apple (Granny Smiths work great)
½ cup melted butter
1 tsp. cinnamon mixed with 1/3 cup sugar

Mix flour, powder, salt, nutmeg and ½ cup sugar. Cut in shortening. Add egg, milk and apple and mix until smooth. Grease muffin tins. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes.

While muffins are still hot, dip each in melted butter then roll in cinnamon and sugar mixture.
