My Year in a Word

My 2015 journey summed up in one word. I’ve never chosen a word to live by before, but this year I am. I’m challenging myself to trust God in every area of my life, down each path He wants me to take. Easy? I guarantee I’ll hit road construction, have to swerve to miss an object blocking my way, and could possibly even experience a collision.

As with everyone who reflected over their last year, there were some things that didn’t go according to MY plan in 2014. Especially in my writing career. I received multiple rejections on a novel I’ve poured a year of my life into. But God knows what opportunities lay ahead, and He controls all the doors. I’m confident He’ll find a home for this story, even if His will is for it to forever stay in my home, on my laptop as a learning tool.

“He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name sake.” Psalm 23:3. I’m choosing to trust.

Do you have a word to live by in 2015? Share with us!

That’s a great word! I’ve never chosen a word for the year. I’ve read about it for a couple of years now, but nothing has clicked. Maybe next year. For now I’ll join you in trusting that God has a home for your book!

I’ve never chosen an annual word, either. There are too many words from which to choose! But trusting is what we’re called to, so I join you. And I LOVE your story. I hope The Lord will allow it to find its way into many homes, regardless of the detours.

I’ve never chosen a word of the year before either. But if I had to, Trust would definitely be it. Great post, Candice!

I haven’t chosen a word for this year yet, but in the past, I’ve had a few, and each one was significant. Last year, the word was Grace. Seemed the whole year, God taught me about His grace–in stereo. Considering the year I had, grace was the perfect word.

A year or two before that, the word was Boldness. All year, I felt the Lord telling me to be bold, to take chances I might not have otherwise taken. I followed His path and learned so much.

A few years back, though it was never an official word, the word was Believe. All year, the Lord challenged me to believe him in every area of my life. It was an amazing year.

What strikes me as I write this comment is that the lessons God taught me through those words have stuck with me year after year. They were no flash-in-the-pan lessons. Why does that surprise me? God’s work is permanent.

I’m excited to hear what God teaches you about trust this year. I hope next January, you’ll blog about all your learned.
