Young Reader Favorite Books

17 Sep

file0001160118336I loved being read to as a child – I think we all did – but being able to pick up a book and read it on my own? That was magical. I spent a large part of my childhood with my nose in a book. Within those pages, I had more adventures than I could count. I read the same stories over and over again, never tiring of my favorites.

What books captivated you as a young reader?

I’ll go first and once again I give the credit to my Grandma Lewis. She had kept an old ratty paperback that had belonged to my dad when he was in school, Big Red by Jim Kjelgaard. Both my brother and I loved that book. And today, more tattered than ever, it rests in a place of honor on my bookshelf.

Now it’s your turn. What was your favorite book once you learned to read?

I loved Harry the Dirty Dog when I was little. My kids loved Goodnight, Moon, lots of Dr. Seuss books, and a little board book with Arthur and D.W.

Oh, boy. I wish I could remember the names of the books I read as a kid. There were many of them!
